Tuesday...

I was in this terrible traffic yesterday, going nuts over a reckless BRT LAG bus and at the same time gisting on the phone with tobenna, when the song came on.

Y’all must have heard it; that song – BIG BOY featuring Eldee, BankyW and Olu.

The razzest song of all time! What load of crap!

I mean seriously, is this the bane of music? Are we improving or are we becoming a bunch of deluded folks aiming for one goal – to grace the red carpet with our gold teeth gleaming like the shield of Robin Hood?

When I was younger, music was a tool for information. You sing and you learn. These days music only makes you conceited and pompous. It’s all hallucination; a figment of imagination stretching beyond it limits.

So what’s the song about?
Gucci on my wrist, prada on my back, Versace in my arse, DKNY in my poop, Bentley in my garage, and a Moschino suicide rope tied around my Kenneth Cole fan to kill me!

What a load of crap!

I mean subtlety, for me, is everything oh! Those blatant words proclaiming you are the biggest boy in town is just unbecoming.

And I used to love Eldee. Back then he was a rapper. I had a crush on the Trybesmen, now he sings folklore songs with no substance.

I’m sad…I’m really sad.

Oh wow! I haven't heard the song, not sure i'll be listening to it..what rubbish!

Music is definitely no longer a tool of education! na rubbish dem dey sing these days...

how you doing?

WF, well...the words didnt exactly do that way, but am sure u catch my drift. it's a pompous song claiming all of the world's swagger and wealth. something nigreians already have a problem with.

i'm fine, thanks!

lol...isi why don't you want people to embrace their inner greed...truth is people will always covet materialistic things until they learn to look inside themselves...

Music still is a good medium...for info...for worship etc...you just have to be listening to the right songs...which is why i overplayed 9ice's album last year...

not really a fan of eldee...bosi gbangban was played 2 much in lagos this christmas

DKNY in my poop?? lmao..

i agree
but I guess nigerians explore the "feel good" side of music too much.

Joy Isi Bewaji said...

shubby, i agree jare. how bodi?

afrobabe, ah yes o! he had his whole song screaming designer ish, am sure the poop must be designer. lol!!!

miz-cynic, this ain't 'feel good' at all o. 'feel good' is MI's stuff, not some load of crap about versace and prada. razz with a capital 'R'!

You know I wrote a post partly on Nigerian music, and I think it's getting better, but there's still so much rubbish out there. I'm getting tired of listening to that D banj and his lot, I feel he's just a phase, that we should be done with by now. At least there's much to music, than 'feel good' songs, I'd like to hear 9ice sing upbeat songs, but also do something more reflective with his unique voice and tough experiences.

afolabi, ah! u say it better than anyone else. thank u! i feel u on all levels. they keep dishing out crap all in the name of going commercial. eldee is a good rapper; one of the best. but what's he trying to do with all this cheap lyrics he's doing now?

i dont get it!

music STILL is food for the soul

we just have to listen to what appeals to us..........

as musicians they MUST sell music(how them for chop)

it doesnt have to make sense-and it doesnt have to appeal to everyone

Dbanj is an entertainer-his songs dont have to make sense

but when you listen-some of his songs ARE thought provoking

hate that song all you want dearie-you are allowed to vent

but like you said MI's music is great so when you say

this is what music is now...i tend to disagree........

to each his own.......

Total rubbish!
Its not by force to sing.

olamild, it didnt exactly sound that way...but its just as ridiculous! how bodi?

aijay, i dey o babes! yea, the song would either make u laugh or get u really pissed! it got me mad! lol!

jaja, thanks jaja. wishing u all the best this year

ibiluv, yes! to each his own. this is my page and i just told u what my own is. its a shame u'd reduce everything to record sales. its just like saying prostitutes should prostitute becos they have to make money... must music reduce everyone to nitwits? are u saying it is ok for ur 2 or 3 year old child to go miming that track, cos they will since its gonna be played around them anyway. do u care to know the consequences of that kind of music - a self-conceited, deluded breed of youngsters!
not like it botheres you, all u wanna do is dance, right? LMAO!!!!!

oluwadee, abi o! tell them jare!

Wow, I am doing the rounds today and I stopped over at yours. Hope you don't mind.

Now I know where to come to get an opinion on the latest 9ja music.

I must say, 9ice is the one for me so far. Dbanj, I saw at the ovation red carol and I was very impressed.

Mind you, Olu maintain was there as well and I see what you mean. A poor imitation of an American gangster rapper.

Isi, you are invited to check me out at my blog.

takia and I like your style of writing. I bet your little one knows Obama as well. My 5 year old boy does. TV hmm.

I agree its a rubbish song but u'll find that 70% of hits around the world are in fact utter crap so we shd expect the same in LasGidi.
